If you're thinking of commissioning a piece, I would encourage you to take a look at my work. Click here to view my portfolio, if you haven't done so already, and gain a sense of my style. When working on a commission I generally prefer to make pieces that I have conceived myself, although I have done a lot of traditional and functional work like tool making, as it is a discipline that is integral to skill development.
When you have made the decision to commission a piece from me, it would be best for you to come to my workshop so that I can show you some examples of forged work, and demonstrate the forging process to you. I will also try and get a sense of what you hope the end result of your piece will be. The more you can tell me about yourself, and the kind of piece you want created, the better.
If you have seen a piece on my website that you are interested in purchasing, I can give you cost estimates based on that example, applied to your need. If this estimate is satisfactory, we will then develop a new design with a few sketches and further discussion. After that I will give you a final quote. If you are happy with the final price, you will be asked to pay 50% of the value of the job up front. I will then draw up complete working plans for your approval. Once these are approved, the final step is to begin the actual work on your piece.
It is important to note that as I can only work on one or two jobs concurrently, I may not be able to start working on your piece directly after planning approval, and it is not unusual for a wait of a month or two before the completion of a job. Please be aware of this, and remember to factor a reasonable waiting period into your schedule.
